NYSPFP is also offering a several regional two-day TeamSTEPPS Master Training sessions. Similar to the sessions offered by NYSPFP in 2012, these sessions are designed as a train-the-trainer course which prepares individuals to plan, teach and implement TeamSTEPPS concepts and interventions. The two-day program is intended for staff that have the skills necessary to teach and communicate the core TeamSTEPPS curriculum effectively to a wide-range of staff from various disciplines, and can support or lead the hospital’s TeamSTEPPS implementation plan. This training will be led by consultants from Healthcare Team Training, and supported by NYSPFP Project Managers.

Select Master Trainer
To get the most out of this Training opportunity, NYSPFP suggests that you identify a staff person that can lead your organization’s TeamSTEPPS roll out, or who can help the current hospital staff spread and enhance the active program at your hospital. The Master Trainer’s primary roles and responsibilities can include:

• Providing internal TeamSTEPPS training.
• Developing and supporting internal champions in priority areas for your hospital, such as the Surgical Suite or Labor and Delivery.
• Coordinating the TeamSTEPPS hospital roll-out program.
• Developing internal policy and procedures that integrate and optimize the principles and tools.
• Working with the internal NYSPFP and other quality improvement teams to effectively integrate the tools where appropriate.

In selecting a TeamSTEPPS Master Trainer for your institution you should consider staff for this role that have the skills necessary to teach and communicate the core curriculum effectively to a wide-range of staff from various disciplines.

Your staff can get extensive information on TeamSTEPPS on the AHRQ Web site. There is also a brief 12-question AHRQ readiness assessment that can help further your internal preparation and discussions.
