NYSPFP Pressure Injury Webinar: Overview of New Pressure Injury Clinical Practice Guidelines

Thursday, December 5, 2019
11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
NYSPFP will host a webinar on December 5 to review the new 2019 International Pressure Injury Prevention and Treatment Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG). Janet Cuddigan, PhD, RN, CWCN, FAAND, President of the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (NPUAP) Board of Directors and Co-Chair of the International Guideline Governance Group, will highlight key recommendations from the CPG. Incidences of pressure injury (PI) are increasing across the NYSPFP hospital network, and our new education and targeted support––including this and previous webinars, the rapid-cycle improvement program work in PI, and the eLearning module––are available to help reverse this trend.

The 2019 CPG will be released on November 16 at an event at the University of Southern California’s Leonard D. Schaeffer Center for Health Policy. The CPG is the result of a collaborative effort by the NPUAP and its global partners—the European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel and the Pan Pacific Pressure Injury Alliance—involving more than 250 experts in small working groups, 1,000 stakeholders, and 1,200 consumers. Over 3,500 articles were reviewed using a rigorous guideline methodology to develop best practice recommendations for PI prevention and treatment. The last international guideline update was in 2014.

Speakers

Dr. Cuddigan is a Professor at the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing. She teaches inter-professional graduate students in dissemination and implementation research and undergraduate nursing students in critical care. Her research focuses on physiological predictors of PI development in critical care and implementation of PI prevention programs.
