NYSPFP Unit-Based Safety Webinar: Engaging the Patient and Family through Shift-Change Huddles and Bedside Rounding

Wednesday, January 23, 2019
11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
NYSPFP will host a January 23 webinar on bedside shift-change huddles and bedside reporting as a high-impact best practice for patient and family engagement (PFE). NYSPFP recognizes that simply moving reports to the bedside isn’t enough; clinicians and staff need to invite patients and families to participate. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services identifies shift-change huddles and/or bedside reporting that includes the patient and family as a high-impact best practice and one of five PFE metrics that hospitals report to NYSPFP.

Topics to be covered include strategies to promote a culture of bedside reporting, components of a care experience bundle, benefits to the care team of patient/family involvement at these critical junctures, methods to measure rounding performance, demonstrated successes leading to improved HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) scores, and hardwired processes that ensure sustainability in the patient care experience process.
