NYSPFP ADE Webinar: ISMP Assessment on Opioids

Tuesday, January 15, 2019
1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
NYSPFP will host a January 15 webinar to kick off a new partnership with the Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) to help hospitals complete the opioids module within the Medication Safety Self-Assessment® for High Alert Medications. During this event, members of NYSPFP and ISMP teams will provide information on how to administer an organizational assessment that measures best practices related to safe opioid prescribing and administration, with a focus on opioid stewardship. The webinar also will address the final reports, benchmarking, and feedback that will be available to hospitals that choose to participate.

Background on the ISMP Assessment
The ISMP assessment evaluates hospital systems and practices associated with prescribing for 11 categories of high-alert medications. It can be completed as a whole, or only for specific medication classes. NYSPFP is offering members a limited version of the assessment that includes hospital demographics, general high-alert medications, and the opioid section. The opioid section focuses on hospital protocols and order sets, administration and patient monitoring, staff competency and education, and patient education. NYSPFP will also provide hospitals with their individual results, ISMP’s national benchmarks, and additional benchmarks based on hospitals participating with NYSPFP.

Speakers

• Allen J. Vaida, PharmD, BSc, Executive Vice President, ISMP
• Rebecca L. Lamis, PharmD, FISMP, Medication Safety Analyst, ISMP
