NYSPFP Health Care Disparities Webinar: Making Health Literacy and Cultural Competency an Institutional Priority

Tuesday, February 5, 2019
2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
On February 5, NYSPFP will present the third webinar in the Health Care Disparities educational series, which focuses on building and sustaining an organizational response to eliminating disparities and achieving health equity.

The webinar will provide guidance to address disparities by evaluating awareness and adopting The National Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) Standards in Health and Health Care. The featured speaker, Dr. Betancourt, will cover the following topics:

• The CLAS Standards and understanding the role, key issues, and principles of cultural competency (CC) and health literacy (HL) in addressing health care disparities
• Creating a framework for identifying CC and HL needs within the populations you serve
• Strategies to improve communication effectiveness and address language barriers within diverse populations
• Providing education and training for staff, patients, families, and care partners
