NYSPFP Worker Safety Webinar: Safe Patient Handling in the Emergency Department

NYSPFP will host the first of a two-part webinar series on Safe Patient Handling (SPH) for Special Populations on August 2. This first event will focus on creating, building, and sustaining a culture of SPH in the emergency department (ED).

Webinar topics include:
• Creating an ED equipment toolbox
• Best-practice strategies in SPH in the ED for injury prevention
• SPH solutions by patient type
• Lessons learned in the ED
• Assessment for SPH patients in the ED
• Emergency procedures for injury prevention

The next webinar in the series, slated for the fall, will address SPH in the behavioral health setting.

Featured speaker Robert Guest, MDT, MSPT, Coordinator of Patient Handling and Injury Prevention for Kaleida Health, will discuss how to create an ED that engages both patients and employees in safe practices through a top-down organizational commitment, an engaged SPH committee, ongoing education and retraining, and internal SPH champions.
