NYSPFP Falls Webinar: Introduction to the Fall TIPS Collaborative

Wednesday, August 1, 2018
2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
On August 1, NYSPFP will host a webinar to review the Fall TIPS Toolkit, overview the Fall TIPS (Tailoring Interventions for Patient Safety) Collaborative, and discuss how to join. In addition to the webinar, NYSPFP plans to host two regional, in-person trainings followed by two coaching calls. All hospitals are welcomed to participate in the full range of NYSPFP Fall TIPS training and education, regardless of whether they enroll in the Collaborative.

The Collaborative provides ongoing access to the Fall TIPS Toolkit, training webinars, and the implementation guides. Participating hospitals are asked to submit deidentified data monthly via a web-based data portal related to engaging patients in the three-step fall prevention process, patient falls, and fall-related injuries. In return, the Collaborative provides access to monthly reports on your hospital’s progress with engaging patients and family in the three-step fall prevention process relative to other hospitals in the Collaborative’s database.

The webinar will feature speakers from the Fall TIPS team at Partners Healthcare, founded by Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital; Zoe Burns, MPH and Srijesa Khasnabish, BA. Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, in collaboration with Montefiore Medical Center and NewYork-Presbyterian, formed the Fall TIPS Collaborative to ensure that all patients have access to evidence-based fall prevention care.

The three systems implemented the Fall TIPS Toolkit consistently with every patient on participating units, using both electronic health record (EHR)-based tools and paper tools to meet the needs of the diverse hospital environments.

Since putting Fall TIPS into practice in units at Brigham & Women’s Hospital and other participating facilities, there was a 25% reduction in falls on units where the interventions were applied, compared to control units. The speakers will also detail the evidence and experiences of adapting and spreading the Fall TIPS interventions across multiple states and sites.
