NYSPFP Healthcare Disparities Webinar: A Roadmap to Reducing Disparities and Creating a Culture of Equity

Tuesday, July 31, 2018
3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
On July 31, NYSPFP will kick off its newest healthcare disparities initiative with a webinar titled A Roadmap to Reducing Disparities and Creating a Culture of Equity. The Institute of Medicine’s 2002 report, Unequal Treatment, concluded that variations in quality and poor outcomes associated with health disparities are evidence of low-value healthcare. This webinar is the first in a series on building and sustaining an organizational response to healthcare disparities through the adoption of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Office of Minority Health’s (OMH) Disparities Action Statement.

The OMH Disparities Action Statement is a four-stage quality improvement (QI) tool that provides a framework for identifying populations at risk for disparities and closing gaps in care using the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycle.

Speakers
The webinar will feature national expert Aswita Tan-McGrory, MBA, MSPH, Deputy Director of the Disparities Solution Center at Massachusetts General Hospital, who will provide best practice guidance including:
• How to apply QI methods to identify, prioritize, and take action by championing a Disparities Action Statement within your organization
• Identifying vulnerable populations within the populations you serve
• Effective evidence-based interventions to address root causes of health disparities

Additionally, NYSPFP staff will explain how to interpret the NYSPFP REaL (Race, Ethnicity, and Language) Data Report and offer insight on how to use other tools and resources available to support hospitals’ efforts to improve equity and address health disparities.
