NYSPFP Conference: Leveraging Patient and Family Advisory Councils to Improve Care

5/3/2018, 5/4/2018

On May 3 and 4, NYSPFP will host two regional in-person conferences in Rochester and Manhattan, respectively, to detail various innovative hospital approaches to leveraging patient and family advisory councils (PFACs) to improve care. The conferences will also provide guidance on how PFACs can promote health equity by emphasizing the needs of the diverse patient populations that hospitals serve. The conferences will consist of a morning session for hospitals at any stage of implementing a PFAC and an afternoon session for hospitals that need support starting and sustaining a new PFAC.

9:00 a.m.-Noon: Hospital Experiences with PFACs
The morning session will consist of two separate panel discussions, each featuring hospitals from the region.

Panel One: PFACs and Health Equity
Moderated by Knitasha Washington, DHA, MHA, FACHE, Executive Director, Consumers Advancing Patient Safety

Panel Two: Hospital Executive and Patient/Family Advisor Pairs
Moderated by Pam Dardess, MPHS, Vice President, Strategic Initiatives and Operations, Institute for Patient- and Family-Centered Care (IPFCC)

1-3 p.m.: PFAC “Quick Start” Workshop
Ms. Dardess will lead a workshop on key strategies on how to plan for an effective PFAC, practical approaches on how to recruit and orient patient advisors, and how to address barriers to implementation.
