NYSPFP SSI Prevention Webinar: Using the American College of Surgeons Strong for Surgery Toolkit to Optimize Patients for Surgery

On April 9, NYSPFP will host a webinar on strategies to optimize patients and reduce surgical risk via the American College of Surgeons’ (ACS) Strong for Surgery Toolkit. During the webinar, ACS faculty Thomas K. Varghese, Jr., MD, MS, Co-Director of the Thoracic Oncology Program and Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Utah, will detail evidence behind the effective strategies in the Strong for Surgery Toolkit for optimizing patients during the pre-surgical period. The Strong for Surgery interventions address nutrition, medications, smoking, and blood glucose. They can be used to optimize patients undergoing many types of surgery, including colon, gynecology, orthopedics, and cardiac.

Who Should Attend

NYSPFP encourages surgeons, anesthesiologists, operating room nurses, infection preventionists, and staff from the pre-admission office and surgical clinics to participate in the webinar. Other physician and nurse surgical subspecialists and quality improvement/patient safety staff involved in reducing surgical site infection (SSI) rates are also encouraged to join.
