NYSPFP Pressure Injury Webinar: New Strategies to Improve Assessment, Staging, and Prevention of Pressure Injury

NYSPFP will host a November 14 webinar on New Strategies to Improve Assessment, Staging, and Prevention of Pressure Injury. The webinar will provide new strategies and best practices concerning pressure injury assessment, staging, treatment, and prevention, with an additional focus on racial/ethnic disparities. The webinar will also address potential multifaceted issues behind an apparent increase in pressure ulcer rates on a national level.

Topics to be discussed include:
• New developments in pressure injury staging and review of staging algorithm
• Skin assessment in dark-pigmented skin
• Emerging technology for detection of deep tissue pressure injury
• Latest updates on prevention injury best practices
• Impact of ICD 10 coding changes and considerations for documentations
• Recognition and treatment of skin failure

Speakers

Janet Cuddigan, PHD, RN, CWCN, FAAN, is a Professor, College of Nursing, University of Nebraska Medical Center and a member of the Board of Directors of the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (NPUAP). The NPUAP serves as the authoritative voice for improved patient outcomes in pressure injury prevention and treatment through public policy, education, and research.

Karen J. Farid, DNP, CNS/CWON, is a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Enterostomal Therapy with 50 years of direct patient care experience. She obtained her MA in Rehabilitation Nursing from New York University, is a certified WOCN, and obtained her doctoral degree at Case Western Reserve University. The impact of serious pressure injuries among acute/long term patients has made this issue a focus of study and clinical research throughout her career.

NYSPFP encourages the participation of multidisciplinary pressure ulcer team members, which may include: wound care specialists, physicians and nurses, coding specialists, nutritionists, dietitians, quality leads, physical therapists, pain management specialists, pharmacists, infection preventionists, and case managers.
