VAE/Delirium Prevention: Ventilator Associated Events: Are They Preventable and How Can We Do It?

Thursday, November 9, 2017
1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m.
On November 9, NYSPFP will host a webinar titled “Ventilator Associated Events: Are They Preventable and How Can We Do It?” It will focus on the treatment and management of acute respiratory failure in both the emergency room and the critical care setting and how this can impact ventilator associated event (VAE) rates.

The featured speaker, John Gallagher, MSN, RN, CCNS, CCRN, CEN, RRT, of the University of Pennsylvania, will review interventions to reduce VAE and discuss how his hospital operationalized:
• The application of non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (NPPV) aimed at preventing intubation and during weaning;
• Lung-sparing applications such as use of spontaneous ventilator modalities and low tidal volume ventilation in non-ARDS; and
• Protocolized discontinuation from the ventilator.

Speakers

Featured on the webinar will be John Gallagher, MSN, RN, CCNS, CCRN, CEN, RRT, Trauma Program Manager for the Division of Traumatology, Surgical Critical Care, and Emergency Surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

Mr. Gallagher was previously the Clinical Nurse Specialist for the Surgical/Trauma ICU, and has practiced in a variety of critical care settings, including the Trauma Resuscitation Area and Trauma ICU, General Surgical ICU, and the Emergency Department.
