11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
On Thursday, April 20, 2017, NYSPFP will host a webinar to highlight its support to hospitals’ efforts to reduce the rate of musculoskeletal injuries from patient handling activity. This session will underscore the importance of fostering a culture of safety that integrates patient and worker safety through hospitals’ safe patient handling (SPH) programs.

The program will emphasize SPH as a key component of worker and patient safety, and will include:

• A brief overview of the Partnership for Patients initiative
• An introduction of NYSPFP’s worker safety measurement strategy
• Examples of SPH interventions and high-level successes
• How to use data associated with work-related patient handling injuries to drive improvement efforts for the benefit of patients and workers

The webinar will feature remarks from Susan Gallagher, PhD, RN, a recognized expert in safety, outcomes and communication with an emphasis on bariatrics, skin and wound care, safe patient handling and mobility, and risk and loss control. She is author of the American Nurses Association’s Implementation Guide to the Safe Patient Handling and Mobility Interprofessional National Standards.
