NYSPFP is pleased to offer communication skills training as a resource to hospitals' direct care staff to strengthen effective communication with colleagues, patients, and their family members during critical periods throughout the hospitalization. This includes bedside shift changes, multidisciplinary team rounding, and at the time of discharge.

This interactive, three-hour training program will concentrate on communication styles, managing difficult conversations, building rapport, and using patient-centered dialogue. The training will provide coaching on techniques for effective communication during shift changes between co-workers, as well as engaging patients and family members at the bedside to convey trust and understanding. Given the patient's condition, this training helps frontline staff to allay any fears the patient or family member may have about the course of the hospitalization.
