CAUTI Prevention Webconference: Hardwiring Improvement

Tuesday, September 30, 2014
10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
On September 30, NYSPFP will host a webconference focused on sustaining efforts to reduce Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTI). This session will begin with NYSPFP staff sharing recent CAUTI data in New York State and introducing a set of CAUTI Guiding Principles to assist hospitals in supporting their reduction efforts. The webconference will feature Sanjay Saint, M.D., M.P.H., George Dock Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan and the Director of the Veterans Affairs (VA)/University of Michigan Patient Safety Enhancement Program, and the Associate Chief of Medicine at the Ann Arbor VA Medical Center. Dr. Saint will discuss strategies to hardwire practices and maintain CAUTI reductions, with focus on the lifecycle of the catheter, reducing CAUTIs in Intensive Care Unit settings, reviewing Tier 1 (use of indwelling urinary catheter kits) and Tier 2 (enhanced practices, including evaluation of indication for use, maintenance, and removal technique) approaches to reduce CAUTIs, and reinforcing continued use of the CAUTI “Guide to Patient Safety” to assist in reduction efforts. Dr. Saint will also discuss CAUTI reduction in the overall context of “No Harm Across the Board.”
