Downstate: Regional NYSPFP Advanced Colon Bundle In-Person Conference

NYSPFP is pleased to present the Advanced Colon Bundle through an in-person conference in May. Multiple regional sessions will be held to allow as many clinical staff to participate as possible. During these sessions, NYSPFP will provide an overview of the initiative. Robert Cima, MD, MA, Professor of Surgery at the Mayo Clinic, will present the evidence behind the initiative’s approach and goals, share successful strategies, and guide hospital teams in developing their initial quality improvement action plans. Michael Timoney, MD, FACS, Vice Chair of Surgery for Quality Improvement at Lutheran Medical Center, and Mark Lema, MD., PHD., Chair of Anesthesiology, Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Professor and Chair of Anesthesiology, University at Buffalo, State University of New York (SUNY) will participate in a panel discussion to share their facility’s experience with the colon bundle elements and the impact on colon surgical site infection (SSI) rates at their hospitals. NYSPFP staff will be available at all regional sites to facilitate team planning. Surgical teams will have ample opportunity to participate in question and answer sessions and interactive discussion throughout the session.

Who Should Attend

NYSPFP encourages your hospital’s SSI/OR Safety team and colorectal surgical champions (including at a minimum, surgeon, anesthetist, OR nurse) to participate in this conference. NYSPFP will webcast the event to multiple regional sites to encourage hospitals to send as many staff as possible. Quality improvement and infection prevention staffs are also encouraged to attend.
