CAUTI Reduction In-Person Event (Downstate New York)

NYSPFP’s next phase of CAUTI reduction work will kick off with two regional in-person learning sessions (September 16 in Upstate New York and September 17 in New York City) featuring presentations by Sanjay Saint MD, MPH, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor VA Medical Center, as well as presentations on regional successes in this area.

The sessions will focus on the following topics:

• eliminating unnecessary and non-indicated urinary catheter insertions;
• developing and hardwiring systems for timely urinary catheter discontinuation, including ongoing review of catheter necessity—particularly at transition points such as transfers out of the operating room or critical; care settings—and systematized protocols for discontinuation, including hard and soft stops;
• review of the urinary catheter insertion and maintenance bundles; and
• innovative practices for CAUTI reduction, including a focus on the role of non-clinical staff.

Who Should Attend

NYSPFP encourages your CAUTI interdisciplinary team and front-line clinical staff to participate in one of the in-person events. This includes, at a minimum, your CAUTI clinical and data leads, in addition to any other key staff members (e.g., nurse and physician champions from intensive care units (ICUs), non-ICUs, emergency departments, operating rooms, infection preventionists, quality staff, and ancillary support staff such as transporters).

Note that while the keynote addresses will be delivered in Rensselaer and New York City respectively, NYSPFP is webcasting this program to multiple regional locations to allow as many hospital team members as possible to participate.
