NYSPFP will launch its Ventilator-Associated Event (VAE) initiative through an in-person conference on March 20, which will be held at six regional locations. We encourage all hospitals to participate, including those that originally opted out of the ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) initiative. This session will be an opportunity to receive education and support on the new VAE surveillance measures, feedback on current performance, and areas for improvement. The session will provide a comprehensive overview of the VAE initiative and will cover topics including the traditional VAP bundle, innovative practices in oral care, activity, mobility, and sedation reduction or elimination. The session will also feature a review of the new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) National Healthcare Safety Network (NSHN) VAE surveillance definitions and protocol.

NYSPFP continues to promote the team approach for quality improvement, and encourages hospitals to send a team including champion intensivists and/or pulmonologist, nurse leaders, respiratory therapists, quality staff, and infection preventionists to the onsite sessions.

This Webconference will be presented with Closed Captioning. You can begin accessing the closed captioning 10 minutes prior to the start of the Webconference, either in the WebEx media viewer, or by opening a separate window in your browser and using the following link: http://www.captionedtext.com/client/event.aspx?CustomerID=1367&EventID=2115411
